Selection by Ilmira Bolotyan
From the very beginning of my curatorial work, I have mainly worked with artists, and this selection is no exception. All the authors somehow work with the actualization of traditional mediums and plots.
Ekaterina Zhilina (Moscow) creates images referring to medieval marginalia and the Russian splint, existing simultaneously in a romantic and ironic space.
Anna Ivanova (Tashkent) is a master of everyday scenes made in a direct individual manner, combining drawing, collage and elements of fabric applique.
Evgenia Nozhkina (Voronezh) creates tapestries, canvases and objects from fabrics, often involving viewers in the creation process, thus combining craft and participatory practices.
Irina Polonskaya (Haifa. Israel) is experimenting in the field of collage, capturing personal emotional and bodily experiences.
Lina Khasanova (Moscow) makes paintings in which she embeds people, trees and textures created by neural networks. Traditional genres of landscape, interior, portrait "break down" due to the intervention of artificial intelligence and the will of the artist, observing a fine line between the familiar eye and the generated one.
