Catherine Zorkaya, a Moscow-based artist, as the daughter of hereditary diplomats, has spent most of her life traveling, immersing herself in different cultures and traditions. She studied in Syria, Europe and the United States. Graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute. Spent her childhood in the Middle East, lived in Africa (Mauritania, Senegal) for a long time. A long trip in recent years in West Africa has had a collective influence on the artistic practice and the spiritual path of Catherine.

The artist seeks images in primitive art, shamanism, the art of African natives, paganism, folk folklore of all countries, primitivism, early iconography.

Gathering together the fragments of seen and lived cultures, the artist creates her own unique rituals, her faith, her temple, turning them into another attempt to understand and reassemble the world around and in uncomplicated language to talk about profound things: about life, about faith, about death, about the process of being. This is the plane from which the meeting of different cultures became possible and from which Catherine Zorka's artistic language originates.
