Petrosyan Gurgen

Gurgen Petrosyan was born in 1985.

Gurgen's works are in the collections of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art (St. Petersburg), the State Museum of the East (Moscow), as well as in private collections in Moscow, New York, Dubai.

PROJECT "LEARN YOURSELF"

In the project "Know thyself" the artist depicts the philosopher's room, where the act of cognition takes place. In this room, during meditation, a dialectical interaction between the subject and the object of cognition takes place.

In the humanities, especially in philosophy, the subject of research is, among other things, the worldview of the researcher. For example, in philosophy, the thinker thinks of his object (thought), that is, himself.

PROJECT "PHENOMENON OF MY ROOM"

"During self-isolation in 2020, I was forced to stay in my room. Then I found something to do — I decided to explore the place where I live with artistic methods. I wondered how much I could discover the “phenomenon of my room”, and how much the room, in turn, would open to me.

During this experience, I realized that my mood affects the object (room) and, conversely, the atmosphere of the room affects me: that is, there is a dialectical interaction between the subject and the object of cognition.

I decided to observe myself for one week and transmit my observation through the sculpture. The experiment lasted 9 weeks".
