My work is not a frozen sculpture, but rather a song born in dance.
Mikhail Krunov. The supra-cultural Absolute or the sensual exploration of time.
My work is not a frozen sculpture, but rather a song born in dance. This is not the final destination, but an endless journey, where the path itself is important, not the arrival. I am close to traditional painting, minimalism and geometry, and it is precisely the direction of art where it approaches science. Philosophy, science and art merge into a single research method, where aesthetics is subordinated to a strict intellectual program and manifests itself as a consequence of the beauty of a scientific idea. The idea, taking possession of consciousness, subordinates the creative search, a series of works are born, and the formal search, the sensory process, and the material develop the idea. Vision creates action, and action reveals vision.
Since my youth, I have been attracted by the ideas of Russian cosmism from Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Vladimir Vernadsky and Nikolai Fedorov. Tsiolkovsky considered God and science as interrelated concepts that do not contradict each other. For me, this is not only aesthetic and artistic work, it is a spiritual practice, a supra—cultural Absolute.
His fascination with Eastern philosophy and his trips to India led to the creation of a series of works, the Kalpa cycle, based on the ancient philosophical concept of the cyclical nature of time. The four color spots symbolize cosmic extended periods of time. The Genetic Code series was born in reflections on deep family ties in social life and biology, influenced by the works of Nikolai Fedorov and the impression of a living cell in an electron microscope. Further, through plastic and color, ideas develop and lead away consciousness then into the depths of the microcosm, then into the endless expanses of the universe. And most importantly, in their sacred constructions, diagrams in formats of the same size, one can see the structure of both the infinitely small and the infinitely great. After the complex, deep structures of the multiverse, it was interesting for me to see the spatial structures of the landscapes of the Moscow region.
I was greatly helped by the discoveries of outstanding scientists in the field of cosmology — Roger Penrose, who discovered the mathematical mosaic in 1978 and received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2020. We are talking about geometric structures in which order and chaos exist simultaneously and are manifested in the latest materials - first created on planet Earth in 1982. John Rees is the greatest astrophysicist of our time. His lectures and books reveal to me the secrets of the universe, awaken thought. His latest work is devoted to the five world constants, where he reveals the mystery of what holds our universe together and recognizes that there is a mind incomparably more powerful than human. In the fascinating process of learning about the world and oneself, the real middle position of a person is revealed. The supra-cultural absolute binds the atomic, social, and cosmic into a single system, and art allows us to perceive it sensually.
