Alagich Katya
Katya was born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1991 and grew up in a Russian-Bosnian family in Moscow. In 2014, she graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute with a Master's degree in architecture. Her immersion in the history of art, design, painting, and sculpture, as well as her work with light, shadow, composition, and volume, greatly influenced the development of her visual style.
"My focus is on meditative silence, on the beauty of tranquility that I find in everyday life and invite the viewer to a thoughtful and honest dialogue with themselves, in which, I hope, they will experience emotions that they did not even know about. Working in the field of abstract realism, I mix space, vibrant colors and a subtle sense of time in my photographs, and thereby try to blur the boundaries of reality, making them illusory. The main themes that I convey in my projects through encrypted semantic codes are a person’s focus on the self, awareness of their strength and inner freedom, the uniqueness of their view of the surrounding reality and opposition to familiar norms. As a highly sensitive person, I feel incredible power in the layers of places and destinies that seem snatched from the flow of life. Therefore, all my work is permeated with the themes of memory and recollections that underlie the fragile moments that I capture. Currently, I I work with new materials, combining photography with mirrors, brass, copper, and patination."
